Our 2 Award winning eco barn conversions for self catering breaks at Troutsdale Farm, nr Leek on the Sourthern Edge of the Peak District National – offer a chance to revive, refresh, to just get away from it all, or meet up with family and enjoy precious time together.
With stunning views over open countryside, Tittesworth Reservoir and The Roaches they offer peace and tranquillity in a rural setting all year round.
But in the month of May we so look forward to the fresh green colours of the countryside with the spectacular blue carpets of wild bluebells in the area.

The best time of year for bluebells is mid-April to late May, so lace up your walking boots and let us help you find them... the season can vary ... so check with the local place before you set off ... and then enjoy!

We are fortunate to be centrally located between nationally renowned areas in this country for magnificent wildbluebell displays that are within easy reach and offer some of the most lovely walks that you can do in this area. The bluebells attract followers from near and far such is the appeal of these exquisite flowers that herald the start of spring. Delicate and yet at the same time robust they are one of our most loved flowers – whether magically carpeting country paths in the wild or in garden borders. They simply cheer the soul and tell us we have another year of flora in store.

Tittesworth Reservoir - just a short walk along field footpaths from Troutsdale Farm Cottages you can see a bank of bluebells - you can also walk all around the reservoir along the nature trail where banks of bluebells can be seen at various stages, call at the Visitor Centre with cafe and shop or let the children enjoy the excellent childrens play area with various swings and rides.

National Trust Places nearby with bluebell walks include:-

Mosely Old Hall Staffordshire

Longshaw Estate- Derbyshire Peak District - the best place to find them is in ancient Hay Wood

Calke Abbey - Derbyshire

The Woodlands Trust:- Bluebell woods and Yoxall Lodge

Lodge Hill Bluebells

Rode Hall:-Open 28 April to 9 May 2018
Just over the county border in Cheshire is Rode Hall Grade II listed Park and Gardens in Cheshire which has wonderful woodland Bluebell Walks.  The carpet of bluebells in the Old Wood is stunning and combined with their beautiful blooming daffodils, azaleas and early rhododendrons it is a lovely Spring Walk.  Why not combine your walk with a trip to the Rhode Hall farmers' market  - checkout their webiste for further details

Wicker Man is the UK's first new wooden coaster built in over 20 years, a unique experience that claims will reconnect riders with the primal essence of rollercoasters.

The world’s most immersive rollercoaster experience to date, unifying cutting edge special effects with classic wooden coaster technology for the first time!

Climb on-board the Beornen’s works train passing further into their secretive world, splintering around a labyrinth of twisted track. The burning embers light the path as the train hurtles towards the six-storey high flaming effigy.  Speeding towards the Wicker Man, he spectacularly ignites into flames as the train bursts through his chest three times!!

We are only about 20 minutes drive away from Alton Towers - take the trill ..... if you dare!

"There is nowhere else in the world that people can experience the feeling of a flying rollercoaster combined with soaring through the universe. For two minutes, our guests will be transported into space and we believe Galactica showcases the future for theme parks around the world – it's a complete game changer."

It's launch comes just days after Alton Towers revealed it is set to open the WORLD'S FIRST ROLLERCOASTER RESTAURANT

Galactica will be located in the Forbidden Valley area of the theme park and is set to open in April 2016. The launch follows earlier news of its Rollercoaster Restaurant, which opens in May.

BBC TWO TELEVISION PROGRAMME - "The Great Pottery Thrown Down' - November 2015

Made by the team behind 'The Great British Bake Off' programme , the six-part series aims to find pottery's hottest stars.  Ten home potters from around the country head to Stoke-on-Trent, the home of pottery, in their quest to become Top Potter.

Presented by Sara Cox, and judged by acclaimed potters Keith Brymer Jones and Kate Malone, the show mirrors Bake Off's format, taking a team of amateur potters through a series of technical test and challenges each week.

Filmed at the Middleport Pottery factory - home to world famous Burleigh Pottery - BBC 2's The Great Pottery Throw Down airs from beginning of November 2015 at 21.00 on Tuesdays.

Discover more about this facinating nearby location:

World famous Burleigh pottery has been created at Middleport Pottery, using traditional methods since 1889. It is now an exciting visitor destination in the heart of Burslem, the Mother Town of the Potteries, following a stunning £9million restoration by The Prince's Regeneration Trust.

  • Learn all about Middleport Pottery as you explore its new unique visitor experience.
  • See pottery produced over the years and step into the iconic bottle kiln in the FREE visitor centre
  • Visitors step back in time to explore the Visitor Centre which comprises Victorian offices, historic collections, bottle kiln and mould store – and learn about the people and events which have shaped the pottery.
  • Book a factory tour to find out how Burleigh is produced using traditional craftsmanship. The Middleport Pottery factory tour is unique. It offers the chance to see pottery being made using the same handcraft methods as in the 1880s. The tour leads visitors through each stage of production in sequence, showing how a lump of clay is transformed into a finished piece of pottery.
  • Enjoy a browse through the well stocked factory shop (with seconds and sometimes sales stock) and take home some Burleigh pottery.
  • Afterwards, relax in the café which overlooks the Trent and Mersey Canal.
  • Middleport Pottery also offers a wide range of events and activities including film evenings, schools holiday crafts and birthday parties.

In June 2011, The Prince’s Regeneration Trust fundraised to acquire the site and restore it and over a period of 3 years the site has been transformed brick-by-brick and day-by-day, from a building so in need of repair that it was becoming unsafe, to one that has gained new life and a new future.

It is now fully open to the public.

Some Burleigh ware is available in our cottages for guests to enjoy and 'try' in The Old Cartshed. Burleigh Ware Jugs and vases are also often used to great our guests with fresh homegrown flowers
