About us - our family home

Who we are

A warm welcome from Barbara, Ray and family ... Troutsdale Farm, situated by Tittesworth  has been our much loved family home and farm since we first moved here when we started our married life and farm partnership over 40 years ago. We love where we live, the countryside scenery is fantastic .. and we have bought up 4 daughters here ... and so ...  with our little project we invite you to come and stay with us in our Peak District holiday cottages.

Our restoration project

In 2007 we started on our 'little project' to convert 2 of the 4 beautiful sandstone and gritstone buildings which date back to the early 18th Century in the farmyard courtyard.

We were keen not to lose the agricultural heritage and integrity of these beautiful buildings else the history is lost forever - and so a very careful restoration and conversion started - resulting in a unique and beautiful place to stay - and which many people comment as they first walk through the door "it just feels right"

Eco Conversion

This started off as simply trying to support local farming industry and  local community, sourcing natural products that we just natually ended up doing when we cut our own trees down to replace timbers - and so it just grew - to then include renewable form of energy heating with the geothermal ground source heat pump which does the warm and cosy underfloor heating, to the solar panels which provide the hot water, to the rainwater harvesting system.

The greener features of the barn are carefully incorporated so that you hardly know they are there and require no expertise or knowledge.

Central heating comes from the ground source heat pump and solar panels.
Rainwater harvesting system works for all grey water. .
Timbers replaced in the conversions were cut from local woods, and we have planted 20 acres of new woodland.
The traditional lime plastered walls are painted in Earthbourne natural Clay paint,
The windows are all made from wood and painted with organic linseed oil paints,
Sheepswool insulation is used throughout the building
Natural clay aggregate forms the floor insulation in the lime-crete floor which incorportes the cosy underfloor heating.
There are 4 herb borders from which guests can enjoy and pick their own herbs.
Further details on our conversion can be seen here - including a picture gallery of the work that was done - its lovely to see the 'before' and 'after' photos!

OUR AWARDS

We did not set out to win awards - the most important thing to us was to create somewhere lovely for family and friends to stay, somewhere that we would like to stay ourselves, where comfort, cleanliness and attention to detail are important - but we are very proud of the awards that we have won - all of which took us by surprise. More details can be seen here...
