The Old Cartshed is Visit England inspected 4 STAR GOLD AWARD luxury holiday cottage with 3 bath/shower rooms (2 ensuites)
Being one of the oldest building on the farm and converted in 2010 from a traditional stone building that used to store the carts that were pulled by the shire horses that worked the land (hence the large 'cart shed door' opening we kept as original as we could on the outside yet being part of the wonderful character on kitchen side) into wonderful and very spacious self-catering accommodation.
We have tried to retain the character of the old buildings for a unique holiday home and experience, but at the same time we’ve incorporated all modern facilities and eco friendly features to create a unique and special place to stay - using traditional , natural and local materials to create a light, airy and modern building that is comfortable and tastefully furnished with a large open plan kitchen dining area, with an island unit, handcrafted bespoke kitchen and yet leaving all the inside 'as it was' so the agricultural history and story is not lost ... yet creating somewhere unique and special to stay, for spending precious moments and creating memories with family and friends.
Home from home
The fully-equipped kitchen was hand crafted by a local carpenter from oak and with oak and marble worktops. It as an electric oven(double oven) and hob, microwave, dishwasher and large fridge freezer. The large dining table seats 10+ people (plus 1 highchair) and is locally made from wood, as are the dining chairs, benches and most of the beds and bedroom furniture - supporting local and natural materials is important to us!
In the cupboards you will find quality crockery including Denby, Emma Bridgewater and Burleigh as well as plenty of cooking pots, utensils, cutlery and various glassware.... again supporting locally made items ... try before you buy and visit some of the great pottery factory shops and outlets in the infamous 'Potteries area'!
Just off the kitchen there is a separate utility room with a washing machine, clothes drying stand, smaller drinks fridge, belfast sink useful for washing those muddy boots after a footpath walk, and downstairs WC.
The lounge area hosts a cosy Clearview log burning stove and quality comfy sofas and chairs, bought locally and made in the UK using Harris Tweed wool and leather - supporting the wool industry and its incredible features was really important on the farm barn conversion with the link to wool on the farm.
The lounge area has a garden full glass door with spectacular views of the Peak District fields and hills beyond, including the infamous and spectacular Roaches rock formation - one of the most iconic area of the Peak District National Peak.... and of course stunning sunsets.
The Clearview log burner and cosy sofas are perfect to relax around after a busy day. There’s a Smart TV and DVD player too, so you can catch up on your favourite programmes or watch a movie whilst you’re here.
The entrance hall has traditional stone flags, brick and stone feature walls and the original stone granary steps winding up to the first floor, there is also a sofa and chair in here so ideal a cosy chat and catch up with friends.
As you climb the unique stone stairs to the first floor large landing area you are wowed by the apex and roof space of the the original barn, it was important that we kept this 'barn feeling'. Just off this landing area is a family bathroom with a bath and shower over and a basin and WC, and then a wonderful wooden oak staircase created to take you up to the bedroom on the second floor by Haddon Estate especially for us from a single tree off their Estate (so using local wood and heritage skills again)
There are four super comfortable bedrooms at The Old Cartshed. The large family bedroom is full of character with original wooden A-Frames and beams, exposed brick and stone work, oak vaulted tall ceilings and solid oak flooring. Ideal for a couple with the comfy Kingsize bed but also in this room is an adult size strong bunk beds for adults or children, as well as a wooden cot. This room also has it's own ensuite shower room.
At the other side of the cottage .and down it's own corridor, the double bedroom has an ensuite shower room too.
On this floor there is also a twin room (with 2 single beds) which has fine views over the garden area and The Peak District National Park hills and countryside.
On the second floor is another twin room with vaulted roof ceilings and 2 velux windows, again with fine views over the countryside.
This cottage is ideal for family and friends get togethers, where you need a little more space. This cottage hosts a lot of 3 generation get-togethers where children and grandparents and anyone in between can be accommodated - we also have an extra travel cot if needed and 2 high chairs
The generous beds have quality mattress's are made up with quality bed linen to help you have a good night’s sleep. We want you to feel totally relaxed during your stay here!
There is central heating throughout, on the ground floor there is underfloor heating from our ground source heat pump so cosy for walking around as you kick of your shoes and start your holiday at the front door. Upstairs there are large oversized radiators again still heated by the ground source. The Solar Panels on the roof are used to heat the hot water.
If you need to stay in touch we have free Wifi in the cottages - if you want to switch off please just let us know and we can arrange this for you.
Private
The Old Cartshed has it's own enclosed garden with a charcoal barbecue and locally made garden furniture, perfect for relaxed alfresco dining outside with family and friends.
The 180 degree panoramic view is quite incredible of the countryside, the Peak District National Park, The Roaches iconic outcrop of rock, Gun Hill and Morridge top hill.
The icing on the cake as to be watching the spectacular Sunsets from Troutsdale Farm throughout all the varying season, throughout the year, these are truly stunning and breath taking - do enjoy them during your stay.
There is off street parking for 4 cars right infront of the cottage (if you need more space please just ask and we can arrange this)
Pet Free Accommodation
We have guest with allergies who like to stay with us knowing that there have been no pets in previously, we find this of particular importance as our daughter has allergies and with this being our family home also and she often helps with the housekeeping of the cottages on changeover day.
Having 4 daughters and one being frightened of dogs we know how important it can be to go on holiday to a dog free site.
We also have our heritage breed sheep and friends sheep grazing the surrounding fields around the cottages and farm - and we just do not want any 'dog worrying incidents', especially around lambing time and when the sheep are pregnant. We had a horrific attack where out of 50 sheep we only had 15 left - and we just do not want to go through that ever again.
